Ever felt torn between what you feel and what you 'know'. That is also known as Cognitive Dissonance - where you can't be on the same page with yourself.
We all struggle with this from time to time. In a world that promotes constant distraction and dissatisfaction, it's hard to ascertain what it is that YOU truly desire vs what is it that YOU THINK OTHERS EXPECT OF YOU. Constant pressure, shifting perspectives, in addition to your own conflicting thoughts and feelings can make it difficult to feel centered.
One way to feel grounded is to "be with" your ambivalence and discomfort. Schedule a time with yourself where you are NOT doing ANYTHING other than connecting with yourself. Some people call this space "meditation". or "quiet reflection". I call it your SACRED SPACE. Just "BE". No TV, radio, spouse, kids or any person, place or thing you turn to distract yourself. It's pretty challenging work. I believe this is creates that magical space where you begin to gain clarity and hear God's voice (or your Higher Power), more audibly and clearly.
Whatever the medium you prefer - Therapy, Yoga, Meditation, Exercise or a combination of activities, what matters is creating that SACRED SPACE that allows for healing and expansion. This is YOUR TRUE NATURE - to be whole, to love and be loved. I know it sounds simple, but in actuality, it is one of the most difficult tasks to accomplish in this lifetime.
I hope for the collective healing of the world so that we can give and receive MORE LOVE during our lifetime. I believe this is in our DNA - whether we know it or not. There is NOTHING greater than LOVE. We want what we want because we think that's what's going to bring us more love and happiness. LOVE and HAPPINESS are what drive us.
The path to LOVE & HAPPINESS is to create and maintain a SACRED SPACE where you can allow MAGIC to happen. How can we hear when we are so distracted and in constant motion? Take time to "BE", to ALLOW and to BE HUMBLE, accepting that what we NEED right now may differ from what we WANT. Take time to "process" and FEEL our emotions, no matter how uncomfortable they are. There is a time and place for everything.
This is what my clients remind me to do on a daily basis. It is the gift of being a teacher and a student, which we all are.
Honor your Sacred Space. Cultivate Healing and Hope. We all want the same things, we just take different routes!
